As part of the recent merger to become the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Bureau of Epidemiology has undergone a name change and is now the Office of Communicable Diseases. We are in the process of rebuilding our website to reflect this change. Throughout this website, both our old name and new name are used to refer to the same entity within DHHS.
Office of Communicable Diseases
The mission of the Utah Department of Health and Human Services Office of Communicable Diseases (OCD) is to prevent sickness and death from infectious diseases and environmental hazards through data analysis, education, surveillance, investigation, and health policy change. Our vision is to utilize scientific principles and knowledge for fostering healthy communities free of preventable diseases. OCD is also responsible for monitoring and responding to potential bioterrorism threats/events, communicable disease outbreaks, epidemics, and other unusual occurrences of illness.
