Vibriosis is an infection usually caused by eating raw or undercooked shellfish—especially oysters—or by exposing an open wound to seawater.  Vibriosis typically causes food poisoning symptoms like watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and fever, or localized skin or other infections. Occasionally, Vibrio can cause necrotizing fasciitis, which can be life threatening.
