Polio
Polio
Polio is a viral disease that affects the central nervous system. It is more common in infants and young children and occurs often under conditions of poor hygiene, as it is spread by feces (poop). Infection ranges from fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain to extreme paralysis and death.
While there is no cure once infected, there are two vaccines available and currently recommended in the United States. Following vaccination recommendations regarding polio and good hygiene practices are the ways to prevent infection.
