Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis is a bacteria spread through the urine of infected animals, which can get into water or soil and survive there for weeks or months. Humans become infected through contact with urine or with the water, soil, or food contaminated with the urine of the infected animals.

Animals such as cattle, pigs, horses, dogs, rodents can carry the bacterium. Symptoms can vary from light to severe and may include high fever, headache, chills, muscle aches, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rash. Without treatment, the disease can lead to kidney or liver failure or meningitis.
