Cyclospora

Cyclospora (Cyclospora cayetanensis) is a parasite that is too small to be seen with the naked eye. It can cause diarrhea and other intestinal symptoms that may come and go. Symptoms usually begin about 1 week after exposure.

Cyclospora is not contagious. A person can get infected by putting something in their mouth that was contaminated with feces (poop). People are often exposed from eating contaminated produce or while traveling outside of the United States. Avoiding water and food that may be contaminated with feces is one of the best ways to prevent infection. People who have had Cyclospora in the past can become infected again.
