Carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa

Pseudomonas is a bacteria often found in the environment. More specifically, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the species that causes the majority of infections in humans. In 2017, there were 32,600 infections among hospitalized patients and an estimated 2,700 deaths in the United States.

Those most at risk include:

  • People on ventilators
  • People who use devices such as catheters
  • People who have wounds from surgery or burns
  • People who have a prolonged healthcare stay
