Blue-green algae

Blue-green algae

Blue-green algae are bacteria that grow in lakes, ponds, and other water sources. Like any bacteria, blue-green algae reproduce best in combinations of warm temperatures, sunlight, and nutrient-rich water sources. With these combinations, the bacteria can burst and reproduce rapidly, filling lakes, ponds and ditches with cloudy bluish-green growth. Blue-green algae can prove toxic if ingested in large amounts, and can kill pets and animals if contacted.
